Priliminary Task 1
The Interrogation
Planning
Vernon and I have decided to make our short film about a reporter called Miss Donovan who has been taken to be interrogated by a man called Mr Pink.
Script
Vernon was in charge of writing the script. He had to rewrite it a few times as we decided to make it shorter to fit it into the time allotted. Here is the final copy.

Storyboard
I was incharge of drawing up the storyboard although vernon also had a say in what we put in it. We have change it by taking some of the shots out as it was taking us to much time.
Shot List
I was also incharge of the shot list. In it I have put how long it will take to film each shot, which characters are in the shot, and what props are used in each shot.
Props
-Gun: the gun is a key convention in a thriller film. It is used in our short film only by the head of the bad guys, Mr Pink, this gives him more control and power over Miss Donovan and the Bodyguard.
-Bag: the bag is used in this film to cover Miss Donovans face. It disorientates her so that she does not Know what way they are going or where she is when it is taken off.
-Cups: the cups sit evenly spaced in the centre of the table thus showing Mr Pinks OCD side. It is also used to show the force at which he hits the table as some of the water spills over the side, this is emphasised when Mr pink wipes up the spilt water.
-Chairs: we have to chairs one on either side of the table. We gave Mr Pink a big pillowed office chair this represents him as being the big boss. We gave Miss Donovan a more simple chair to represent her treatment as the person being interrogated.
Costumes
-Miss Donovan: she wears a wight t-shirt with a reporter style outfit. The white T-shirt represents her being on the good side as white is often assumed as being good. The reporter represents how she has useful information as she is a spy.
-Mr Pink: he wears black suit clothes and a black blazer with a pink hankercheif in the blazer pocket. he is wearing black to represent that he is from the bad side. The pink hanker cheif represents who he is (Mr Pink).
-Bodyguard: he wears plain black clothes but has a yellow hankercheif. The black represents that he is from the bad side and the yellow represents who he is.
Location
We chose to use the salvation room at church as it is dark when the lights are turned off and it also has a warehouse kind of look to it.It is also on sight so easy to get to and transport the equipment to. We will use the hallway outside it as it also has a warehouse styled look to it.
Hi Max
ReplyDeleteHere are a few notes;
1. You will need to get in the habit of doing your rough draft to show me on a Friday, typing it all up on the blog and then CHECKING for basic things like spelling, capital letters at beginning of sentences and actually checking your blog homework with a tick list for what I asked you to do.
2. Brainstorm is missing. You outlined in 2 lines what your story is about but you should have made a copy of your brainstorm and scanned it or typed up your ideas you discussed on that 1st day to show your process.
3. "Conventions you intend to employ" was left out. What were your plans for lighting? For sound? For editing ideas? What type of 'feel' were you trying to create and how were you going to use the 4 technical elements to create that? What sort of shot types did you decide on and WHY?
4. Pictures: text is great but your blog needs to be easy to look at. You can use Google or take photos of the actual props you're thinking of using. You can google shots you are thinking of replicating or copying and talk about 'why' you want to and what effect they create. The uploaded script and story-board are great but more visuals would be better!
5. Location: you changed your location from the double classroom to the sanctuary. Why? Why was this change not referenced? This are all things that add to evidence of your process of learning what goes into making a film.
6. Film name: What is the title? This is missing.
7. Where is the list of who is doing what? You wrote this down, this needs to be copied and recorded in your blog. Who is doing sound? Who is doing camera? Who is time-keeping, etc. These will all be things you have on scrap paper that need to appear on your blog. Cambridge won't be able to rummage through your backpack to find these things, make it easy for them.
Overall, some basic planning has gone into the beginning stages of your film but not enough evidence of this is shown on your blog. I highly recommend you start homework on a Wednesday night, show me your rough copy on the Friday before and put some more time into these blog posts. I know that with some more effort you'll see some great results!
Score: 4/10
Also, sorry I forgot to mention, and VERY importantly...
DeleteWhere is your acknowledgement of the 3 elements you have to include and your planning showing where you will do these in your film?
- shot-reverse-shot
- match on action
- 180' rule
This needed to appear in your planning as it was the crucial points that will be marked in the end product! I know you've thought of them and planned them, because I was with you in class but Cambridge will need to see evidence of your planning.
